Grape variety Müller-Thurgau (Rivaner) The grape variety Müller-Thurgau is a high-yielding white grape and is one of the varieties that can be harvested early in autumn. The grape variety is named after its breeder Hermann Müller, who came from the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland and created the grape variety at the end of the 19th century as part of crossing experiments. Genetic engineering studies in the 21st century have shown that the grape variety Müller-Thurgau is a cross between the grape variety Riesling and the grape variety Madeleine Royale. Originally, due to incomplete documentation of the crossing experiments by Müller, it was assumed that the variety is a cross between the grape varieties Riesling and Silvaner, but this could be excluded with the new analysis methods. What remained from the original assumption, however, is the synonymously used name of the grape variety, under which the grape variety Müller-Thurgau has become quite well-known: Rivaner. Included in this name are the Ri for the grape variety Riesling and vaner for the grape variety Silvaner. We designate our white wines of the grape variety Müller-Thurgau as Rivaner and develop them as Classic dry wines with a sugar content of up to 15 g / l.
